The world’s largest model railway

Wondering what the world’s largest model railway is?

There’s a lot of competition of the title of largest model railway. The Northlandz model railroad, is in Flemington, New Jersey, gets a lot of attention and the detail certainly takes some beating:

With 100 trains, 400 bridges and more than nine miles of track it’s sterling work and certainly impressive!

But by my calculation the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg, Germany wins hands down.

Here’s the official video:

The layout includes 13,000 Meters of track which 1,000 engines pulling over 14,450 wagons of assorted types trundle round. Surrounding them is a frankly staggering array of buildings, figures and scenery. According to the official statistics there are approximately 3,660 buildings, 200,000+ figures with 8,850 cars and other vehicles.

Next time you’re in Germany it’s definitely worth a visit. It has to be seen to be believed.
