2020 see’s Hornby reach its 100th year and to celebrate it’s launching a number of limited edition models complete with retro-themed packaging.

It’s hard to believe but the founder of Hornby, Frank Hornby, first started the company that would become the Hornby we know today one hundred years ago this year – 2020. To mark this milestone, the company has unveiled a huge number of new models, including many surprises.

Amongst my favourites are the APT, four tin-plate O gauge models, the limited edition true OO gauge Stephenson’s Rocket and coach set and a range of Steam-punk themed locomotives, coaches and wagons.
Something that I’m particularly interested in from the announcement is the LB&SCR ‘Merton’ locomotive. Merton being the original location of Tri-ang trains factory and where one of my layouts is based and will hopefully feature this very factory.
Interestingly, to built on its 100th anniversary, the company is releasing many of these under brand names from their 100 years, including Tri-ang and Dublo. The steam punk models will be marketed under the Bassett-Lowke name brand.
