N gauge is the second most popular model railway size but the scale of models you can use with the trains varies.
N gauge railways all have the same track width — 9 mm or 0.354 inches — from rail to rail but the scale of the locomotives, models, figures and road vehicles depends on which country you’re in.
What Scale Is N Gauge
- For the UK: 1∶148
- For mainland Europe and the US: 1∶160
- For Japan: 1∶150
- For Japan Shinkansen: 1:160
Aside from scale and track width, there’s also rail height and again this varies. See my quick guide on N gauge track codes for more details.
